Sadly I am not currently in possession of a tower, but luckily my laptop pretty much kicks ass for an ultra portable, it's probably the best gaming machine you can get that can fit in your shoulder bag.

Excaliborg 08-15-2008 12:10 PM

ooh your machine sound positively sexy

but i bet my long-toothed old timer will wollop ypurs for six:D

rhythmic delivery 08-15-2008 01:14 PM

it has a 160 gig hard drive and 2 gigs of ram i think. beyond that i haven't got a fucking clue. its a dell dimension 3100

Excaliborg 08-15-2008 03:47 PM

a branded pc! shame on you

Excaliborg 08-15-2008 03:49 PM

give me a ibm (or lenovo) laptop anyday. tough buggers they are.
my thinkpad t43 runds rings around the newer flashier hp crap thats on the market.

tonywaits 08-15-2008 08:37 PM

I'll take my junk yard special any day of the week. 2.3 ghz, 200 gig HD, 1gig ram, too many fans to mention. Archaic 19" monitor won't quit working so I won't buy a new one. (weighs about 40lb)

Big_Willie 08-15-2008 10:26 PM

3GHz P4
1.5 GB RAM
7600GT 256MB

I think this rig will be fine for some time, though I'm sure I'll have to upgrade it in 2009.

ila 08-16-2008 09:53 AM

It doesn't really matter what a person has because anyone walking out of a store with a brand new everything machine will find that by tomorrow something better will have been made.

Excaliborg 08-16-2008 10:56 AM

yeah. a pc event horizon is sure to occur soon. i mean there have been no factory clocked cpu's above 4Gh, just more cores, dual core, quad core, etc. where will it end?

Hmmm, well at double the ram, and with 2x2ghz vs your 3.4, and a DX10 graphics card, your only advantage will be in FSB, as the laptop version of hte core 2 only as an 800mhz FSB, however I just googled it and your FSB is no faster, so I think I got you whooped. My old tower had a radeon 9600XT before it died and even with it overclocked to the limit, the Nvidia 8400 beats it, so your 9550 is going to get whooped. The only thing mine lack is HDD space, because I just coundn't afford a drive upgrade, I am planning on getting a media server tho, so that should solve my problem as mostly my drive is full of videos.

Admit it boyo, your tower just got beaten by a 13" laptop! lol.

my dear lady, it is easy to mention litlle numbers and proclaim victory. my 9550 is a beast in sheeps clothing. with 256mb and 128 bit, it whollaped a grafix card with triple the power and six times the price tag. my buddy was weeping. i have managed to kill, yes kill a fancy smancy core 2 dup jobbie with similar spces to yours. needless to say i was disappointed...yet my rig leeps going, it does sound like a turbine though. i aint gonna lie, 3d mark and other hardware testing programs dont produce favourable results. but hey, those are just numbers. i can add more ram but what would be the point? im happy with my rig. i'd rather spend the cash towards a sweet ford escort mkll

Excaliborg 08-16-2008 12:20 PM

oh and DX10? bah humbug!

if you wanna go laptop to laptop, purely for grunt...my thinkpad will DESTROY your sexy mchine.

Blauh? a t43? With a 1.86 Ghz Pentium M and a radeon X300? How's that gunna compete with a 2Ghz core2 Duo and an Nvidia 8400?

And it's 14" so it's not even smaller. and it weight 5lbs, vs 4lbs.

You got pwned again.

Excaliborg 08-16-2008 02:00 PM

ah my dear you are fond of your numbers hey. mine has a 2Ghz Pentium M Centrino, 2Gb ram. i dont seem to recall us mentioning weight and size. only grunt power. amd how tough is your sexy machine? but anyway i havent been pwned.

ok, so you draw on ram, but you have been pwned on processor, with the Dothan core, you have no HT, no SSE3, 32bit architecture, and 1 core and has a 533 MT/s FSB. my Core2 Duo, with the Merom core, has SSE3, 64bit architecture, and is dual core and has an 800 MT/s FSB. So, it's pretty much twice as fast.

Also even if you have the Mobility FireGL V3200, which I doubt, you have been pwned as the Geforce 8400 GS ranks 27th and the X600 (which the v3200 is based on) is 39th, mine is equivilent to the x700XT desktop and yours is equivilent to the 9600XT (which I used to have in my old desktop) so you won't be playing half life on full settings... if you have the X300 well.... lol. So, I'm both a generation ahead of you and a model up, at least, lol. interestingly, if you have the X300, its desktop equivalent is the 9550 you have in your desktop, lol, and that is equivilent to a geforce 3 lol, I just threw one of those out, lol.

So, its time to accept your pwning like a man. You have been out-geeked!

Excaliborg 08-17-2008 04:19 AM

your predeliction for numbers is atounding amd rather worrying. so rather continue to spar with you, i shal sheath my sword. there is not much i can say that will convince you. ah well

Wait, so what you are saying is, in a thread titled pc rig SPECS, we shouldn't be using numbers? duuuhh, what are we supposed to be posting then? How fuzzy and warm our computers make us feel inside?

If you are not getting favourable PCmark scores, then what do you base your defeat of better spec computers on? Do you grease them both up and throw them into a cage? Seriously, I happen to know the Radeon 9550 is a piece of donkey dribble, my old 9600XT shit right in it's face and I can see clearly that my new card is faster than that.

I would like to hear a reason why you conclude your computer to be faster...

yeah i think theres a theory called moore's law, that basicaly states that within two years of the purchase of a pc you should be able to get another pc with double the specs for half the price, or something along those lines

Amusingly we see hte core from your laptop is now found in the Eee (with a lower clock speed mind) which is pretty much the cheapest computer on the market. Pwned again boyo.

I've given up on trying to keep up with new technology. Costs too much money and uses too much current. As I run linux and don't play games I don't need a high spec pc anyway.
At the moment I have a small light laptop, and it does all I need.

Dell lattitude d430
Core 2 solo 1033MHz
2GB ddrII ram
30GB HD
Ubuntu 8.10

Lots of external drive space on a little nas, and it suits all my needs. I did connect a nice 24" flatscreen for comfortable use at home though.

GeForce 03-05-2009 03:42 PM

Which PC specs do you want ... I have several.
My favorite PC was actually featured on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles ...
Gateway FX Series Laptop P-6831FX - I upgraded to 4GB of RAM and added two new drives for RAID 0.
Here's The scene & a Newspaper Article
OMG - I'm SUCH a nerd!

I got an
iMAC 21"
4 gb RAM
320gb HDD
ATI 512
4*1TB external drives

I got also a laptop for gaming which is a Alienware AREA51

twistedone 03-15-2009 02:05 AM

Supposed to be a P4 3.0 gig
1 meg DDR 300 memory
Nvidea GForce 6200 w/256 mb ram
160 Gig HDD
DVD R/W
Windows XP Pro.

And I want to upgrade it. I like running games on it, but 2 games are giving me fits. COD World at War, and Tom Clancey's Rainbow 6 Vegas 2.

For some reason, these games run really slow and hurky jerky.

I think it might be the video card. Considering getting a good HD video card, so I can discard the old outdated CRT monitor and hook it up to my HDTV.

guest 03-15-2009 06:44 AM

I just bought the new 17in Macbook Pro. Loving it!!:D

twistedone 04-18-2009 11:30 PM

Just upgraded, and its so sweet.

Asus M3A78-CM Motherboard, supports Blue Ray HD playback.
AMD AM2 Dual Core Processor, 3.0 gigs
800MHz 4GB DDR2 Memory
BFG GeForce 9800 GT Video Card, also HD capable. Using PCI Express2
OCZ GameXStream 700-Watt Power Supply
Sony Blue Ray HD DVD Disk Reader/Writer
Gateway HD2201, 22inch LCD Monitor.

No more hurky jerky games now. :D

i spend a shit load of time at my pc plus i play a lot of video games so i bought one of those sexy alienwares which are expensive, but worth it because of their customer service and their reputation for sleek design which is also very reliable. it's a laptop btw. it has lighting all over, i can change all the colors. it's pretty fuckin badass.

off the top of my head:
4gb ram
nvidea 9800 gt

and yeah.. just with that info you should know it can handle pretty much any game. sorry, i had to show off.

Agreed, Alienware makes a great gaming system.

But why should I pay for it, when I can do it myself? ;)

I built my computer in January 2006, and it wasn't really the fastest thing back then, but I've had no real reason to upgrade it except for adding hard drives. It's an Athlon X2 2.0 GHz running at 2.5 GHz, and it has 2GB RAM, and I think a GeForce 6600 GT (it was the fastest thing that didn't need a fan back then). I've got 4 hard drives in it and a little over 1 TB.

I guess if I played any games on it I'd want something better, but I really don't.

I did upgrade one thing... I used to have 3 monitors taking up my whole desk, but a few months ago I threw away my desk and got a 46" LCD. So I guess I'm a pretty big geek since I usually watch TV on a 32" TV and have my computer plugged into a 46" TV.

twistedone 04-28-2009 04:22 PM

I thought about hooking up my HDTV to the computer as a monitor. But decided that my 22" Gateway LCD monitor does a great job by itself. Now if I could only change the menu language on the monitor. I'm lousy at reading Chinese.

Tried to do the upgrade Sunday, ran into a little snag. Seems my case is just a tad too thin for the motherboard and the CPU cooler I bought. Had to order another case. My son is right, I can't judge size worth.....uh....Scat!!

Also found out, a little late, that because I'm using a 32bit Operating System, It will only recognize just a tad over 2 Gigs of the 4 Gigs of system memory that I have. In order for it to recognize all 4 gigs, I'd have to install a 64 bit Operating System. I so don't like the idea of getting Windows Vista.

Well, 32-bit Windows can address 4GB, but it has to give memory addresses to things like your video memory and other hardware devices, so that means Windows can only usually use 3.12GB of the address space for RAM. It's the same reason DOS had a 1024KB address space but a 640KB RAM limit. Do you have two 1GB video cards or something? That's the only time I've heard of people not being able to see at least 3GB.

64-bit Vista (or XP Pro x64 if you can get drivers) doesn't usually help unless you're running 64-bit software, though, and it might slow things down. Since most software is 32-bit it has to run through the WOW64 emulation layer. Each application is still limited to a virtual 32-bit address space, and I think each thread is limited to 2GB.
