It is because they are practising safe sex, as there are all kinds of sexually-transmitted diseases out there(plus ones that you can get from other sources, such as a blood transfusion for example).

Lots of straight porn stars also use condoms, If you go to Nevada where they have legalized prostitution they also use condoms.

Okay, it seems like english is your second language, so perhaps there was something "lost in translation" with regards to your original post. That being said, try to be more careful in the future how you word things, as something you intend as an innocent question can come across as rude and/or insulting.

Now, as for your question I don't have any clear answer. Perhaps it depends on where the movie(s) is/are being made and whether there are different regulations regarding whether or not a condom is required depending on the country where the movie is being shot. I remember reading a while back that the entire Adult Industry had required their actors and actresses to wear condoms back in the 80s or 90s as HIV and AIDS had become quite rampant back then(in society in general, not just the Adult Industy) and they decided to play it safe.

Why this has changed I have no idea.

even if you were just talking about the porn industry you made the comment that most of the shemale performers are prostitutes. and i'm sure that if they read that they'd feel very insulted. just because you're a shemale making porn doesn't mean you're a prostitute.

Given that "shemale" is pretty much mainly used in the sex industry, it's not that far off to say that most women who call themselves "shemale" are in porn, prostitution, or looking to do so. Not *ALL* by any means, but it's usually a good indication.

I think that's more a failing in the mainstream industry. It is my understanding that in the US the porn industry requires their performers to get regular HIV testing - but I think more performers should use condoms in movies.

My personal opinion on the whole situation is this: I don't want to see condoms in my porn. Period. The price you pay for being in the industry is to NOT spread STDs around. Do this by using condoms outside of 'work'. Unless you are making a movie where there is a condom fetish theme, I don't want to see it. It's a big turn off.

You realise how hard it is to guarantee, especially in countries where the industry isn't tightly regulated, that none of the people in your productions have STDs?
All it takes is for ONE to slip the net when no protection is being used, and EVERYONE performing in your movies can contract HIV, Hepatitis, etc.
You'll be hard pressed to find ANYONE aware of those risks who is willing to have sex without one unless they are DMAN sure it is safe to.
