I already wear glasses, so it's a pain to try to wear a second pair on top of my glasses. Some 3-D movies have given me a headache. Unfortunately, I haven't seen many 3-D movies, but I suspect that it's a fad that is here to stay...Perhaps for big blockbuster/action releases. But I don't see all movies becoming 3-D...What would be the point of a 3-D romantic comedy? As for 3-D TV, I'm not sure if that will catch on. There's so much expense involved and not very much programming for the format.

Roger Ebert came out very strongly against 3D movies...

newsweek.com/2010/04/30/why-i-hate-3-d-and-you-should-too

Keep in mind that this is from a guy who is paid to watch movies. I doubt many of these porn houses that just bought HD cameras can swing the money to buy new cameras, new software, high-end PCs for editing, etc - just for the small audience that can use it.

Samsung warned about it, apparently some studies are being made regarding to the situation, but IMO 3D is just a gimmick :P

TBH that would be a mistake for him. The same movies and story, but with 3D? Trust me, I don't think anyone would pay for that. He'd be better by releasing a 3D version of his films on Blu-Ray, that would make more sense.

In fact, I believe that 3D home sets won't take off until a long time has passed: A lot of people is/has already bought an HDTV set, some of those are the new LED screens, why would they upgrade them so fast just to have a technology which still is not safe, and that there isn't much content available for?

A 3D capable HDTV costs $4kUSD, when a bigger non-3D 1080p screen costs 3 times less, which one would you get?

Well, one thing is true: if you or someone you know ever watched a 3D movie, you/they might have felt seasickness or headaches. Let's consider that this was only for a 2-3 hour exposition to 3D images. It's obvious to think "what would be the consequences of long-term exposure to 3D images?

Also, Nintendo, which is about to release a new version of the DS that supports 3D without glasses, inform that they're also doing research about health concerns regarding to the possible side effects (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multimedia/display/20100626090741_Stereo_3D_May_Be_Harmful_for_Young_ Children_Nintendo.html).

For now, it seems like 3D is not good for children... let's see how the research goes.

And BTW, I think HD is not a gimmick :P and.. why do you say color is one? :P

I'm quite sure that Tracy's comment was tongue-in-cheek.

Yep, and you might even have to learn how to change the needle on your Victrola.

I don't use those confounded modern contraptions. I'm very happy with my Edison Cylinders.

When is a good time to replace the vacuum tubes in my radio?

When is a good time to replace the vacuum tubes in my radio?

After the heater has burned off all the electrons on the cathode and the electrons have all collected on the plate. See illustration for the parts of a vacuum tube diode.

Hi there.

Well, it seems that history repeats itself yet again!

Remember;

The music CD's,

Microwave ovens,

DVD Movies,

etc.

All these started with a lot of skepticism and lots of debate but in the end it got accepted and as time went on the technology improved and now we almost can't immagine how it was before, so 3D will catch on sooner or later, probably sooner, when they get rid of the gogles.
