It is often said that transsexuality is in no way related to sexual orientation, but why then is lesbianism so very rare among trans-women?
If straight men transitioned at the same rate as gay and bi-sexual men, the transsexual gender would mainly consist of lesbians and that (to my regret) is clearly not the case.
As most girls appear to be into men, they must have been gay or bi-sexual in the first place. So.....isn't there a link after all?

I think you need to do a proper survey; lesbianism is more common than you'd think.

Lesbian is rare among transwomen because it's rare full stop. Only about 5-8% of the population are gay/bi.

Exactly, TS are mostly straight.
You just have to hang out with more queer people, plenty of TS that like women.

Read my posting about a precondition for sexual attraction, plz. Normally, gender identification and sexual orientation tend to follow the "accepted" trend, but they are still separated. I do know a few transsexual women (Western chat friends) who are sexually attracted to women. But I guess that's as seldom as cisgendered women being lesbian... I don't know the percentage...
You can be sure that most m2f trans*women have PRETENDED to be gay in as much as they have pretended to be guys before coming out of the closet.
But in my world a trans*woman attracted to men is not gay. Surely, she can be a bisexual, but a "gay trans*woman" is a trans*lesbian woman, meaning a trans*woman who is attracted to cis*women.
This is getting complicated, I know, but it's really rather simple... :-)
No worries, you will find her.
Just out of curiousity... do you consider yourself a gay cis*woman? By my logic you are by being attracted to m2f trans*women. Are you also attracted to cis*women? (I'm not any more)
Good posting you made!

You don't have to explain this to me, Hank, because that is just what I was saying and I don't find it compliclated at all.
Basically, a gay man becomes a straight trans-woman, while a straight male turns into a lesbian. That's not at all complicated!
I am merely questioning what is so often being said, i.e.: that there is no relationship between sexual orientation and transsexuality. With so many girls into men, it would seem that on the whole only gay males feel the need to transition.
Oh, and while it has nothing at all to do with the subject at hand, I'm happy to answer your question. I am not a lesbian myself though I'm definitely more into women than men (haven't been with a man for quite some time).
My fascination for the transsexual gender is easily explained. Trans-women combine a truly feminine body with the part I most value in men.

I could never have slept with a guy as a guy. Nor did I sleep with women. I'm a girl, and to be a girl and be with a guy a need to rectify a mistake that's been made when I was issued my body.
Being with a guy is confirmation of who I am.
There are a lot of lesbian trans girls... it's not an issue. Nor should it be.
