Perhaps you should have asked for a favorite song to a particular mood. People may have one song when with a loved/cherished one, another while in a bar and still another when alone while out of town on a business trip. You can even have one when thinking of your first love. Like , how many would agree to the song 'Memories". Half hour later your favorite would be 'All night long'. Neither of these two just mentioned are anywhere close to favoriteS of mine. Nice thought for a thread but can cause mental stress.

All-time? The Nirvana classic, "Heart Shaped Box." I love it so much, it's the first tune on my MySpace playlist. "Free Bird (Outtake Version)" by Lynyrd Skynyrd is a close second. Then there's the Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris," Van Morrison's "Brown-Eyed Girl," Tool's "Rosetta Stoned," Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name," Moby's "Southside," etc.

Currently that honor goes to Magma's "De Futura" but I'm torn between the original and both the Flying Luttenbachers versions.

So many songs I love to hear etc, and by no means do I listen to this one a lot, but for me "lounge act" by nirvana is my fav song by my fav group, well above all other songs.
Just something about the opening bass, the change in the way the song is sung in second half, and of course the wraspping, powerful emotion filled sound of cobains voice.

Hmmm I tend to have favourite songs of albums, but if I had to pick my fave song at the moment it would be a tie between 2 Five Finger Death Punch songs, both from the same album - American Capitalist (Released in 2011). The songs are:

Under and Over It (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI_9MzjyxCo)

and

100 Ways to Hate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RIxLseyhlQ)

*edit - added hyperlinks to the songs on youtube

I think I prefer the female version, but still a good song :)

Depending on the day/mood/weather.... it could be any of these (or pretty much any other song :D)...

Pink Floyd - Shine on y.c.d
Pink Floyd - Great gig i.t.s
Richard Strauss ? Also sprach Zarathustra
Pixies ? Where Is My Mind?
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free bird.....

There's so many I could choose from, maybe I'll come back and add some more at some point.

Oh, after seeing Rammstein live last week, my favourite song just now is Engel

Jen, I love that song too. :)

I can't pick a favorite song, there are too many! Today I'm in a Lennon mood, watching the wheels go round and round..

On the other hand I quite like New Order. Blue Monday is a classic, World, The Perfect Kiss, Thieves Like Us.. too many to say. :)

I actually have three songs which I can't decide which I like the most. They are all unique that I couldn't place one higher than the other.
They are:

Valse op.64-2
Valse op69-1 "L'adieu"
Nocturne op.9-2

They are all by F.F. Chopin, my favourite composer from the romantic period.

When I started playing the piano as a little kid, it was nearly all pieces from the classical era. But Chopin made some of the most beautiful sounds...the romantic period is just my favourite.
