This is my wife’s favorite singer. I’m hardly a “musical expert” but it’s possible that Kelly has the greatest voice ever. :respect: Especially for modern music. I have been very sick so haven't been doing much of anything. My doctor said it's the "flu that the shot didn't catch." :eek: Indianapolis schools and universities have been hit hard. A couple have cancelled classes. This is the first day I've started to feel better.

(I think originally the term "Diva" was intended to describe a female opera singer of extreme talent and popularity. I don't believe it was meant to be "derogatory" although I could be wrong. The term many people use in a negative manner is "prima donna." That has commonly been applied to anyone who acts entitled or in an otherwise negative manner. I've seen it used in sports quite frequently. "So what if he was the league MVP and just signed a contract for $300 million. He's still a prima donna." :()

Sissy Spacek in “Carrie” :inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove: This could be posted in several places. I’ve decided to post it here because of the fact she has been nominated six times for an Academy Award and won in 1981 for “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Using our definition of “Diva” she is both gorgeous and talented so she most definitely belongs here.

The movie itself is very disturbing yet awesome. Her mother is totally messed up and physically abuses Carrie regularly. It is hard to watch. To say her mother has repressed sexual “issues” would be an understatement. She, not Carrie, is truly the evil one. I’m still not sure if the part at the end where she has an orgasm as she’s being impaled with knives is horrible--or funny. I used to giggle at this scene as a kid. Also for a movie made so long ago the kids are really nasty. I mean really… God, the poor girl! Their treatment of her goes far beyond ordinary “bullying.” Especially the elaborate planning, “setting her up,” and dumping blood on her at the prom. I don’t blame her for burning the goddamn school down.

Anyway, seeing the movie recently, I was struck by how beautiful Sissy was. Doing some “research” I found out she was born in 1949 which would make her 27 here. Does she remind you at all of anyone else that I have a "major crush" on? Never saw it before. Her younger daughter would be about the same age. Her oldest daughter is my age. And she can sing too. Many other “names you would know” come up in the cast, John Travolta, Nancy Allen :inlove: (should have had a major career) and P.J. Soles :inlove: who I know as “Riff” from “Rock and Roll High School.” I like all of them. Too bad they are such shits here. But so is just about everybody else in the school. Carrie, next time just take me along as your prom date. I would have beaten their asses. Besides I drive a lot cooler car. We’d have a great time, then when we got back to your place you could just tell your mom to fuck herself (…but why do I think she already does?) :lol:

Of particular note among the cast is Betty Buckley :inlove: as the gym teacher who befriends Carrie. She is in reality only two years older than Sissy Spacek. Probably best known for her role in “Cats” and the song “Memory” for which she won a Tony Award in 1983. I’ve decided she can be my “personal trainer” any time… :innocent:

Very popular actress of the 40’s and 50’s. Her career extended into the 60’s and 70's. I saw her once in “The Last Voyage” on late night TV when I was very young. Sort of like the “Titanic.” The ship sinks but of course she is saved! What did you think happened? :innocent: Extremely beautiful and sexy, Dorothy was popular as a “pin-up” as well. Sadly, she passed away last year at 92. :broken:

In 1957 she won the Academy Award for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” for “Written on the Wind.” :respect:

(Interesting Trivia: That is Rock Hudson sitting with her in the last picture. Her "husband" in "The Last Voyage" was played by none other than Robert Stack--"Elliot Ness" of the 50's TV show "The Untouchables." The man who helps save her from drowning was played by Woody Strode, a football star at UCLA who would go on to play in the NFL for the Los Angeles Rams. You probably know him from "Spartacus" as a gladiator. Listed at 6'4" 205 lbs. Strode was an "offensive end." Today we would call that position "wide receiver." Long before I was even around but maybe have seen it in repeats? And I have heard of “Dead Reckoning” where she starred with Humphrey Bogart. Which she would later say in an interview was her “biggest turkey.” It can’t be that bad… But this is what she said in an interview dated Aug. 25, 1948. “Lizabeth Scott tells veteran Hollywood columnist Bob Thomas of the Associated Press.”

“I never did understand the character. Bogie was a baby. He was the only thing that made it possible to get through the picture.”

Just heard the very sad news via TMZ that Cameron Boyce who starred with Dove in “Descendants” has passed away. His family issued a statement saying that Cameron died in his sleep “due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition."

Cameron was a popular star on many Disney channel series, including “Jessie” and was one of the main “VK’s” and best friend of “Mal” in Descendants. Just Friday night my nieces and I watched “Descendants 2” in preparation for the 3rd Descendants movie in August.

The character he played “Carlos,” was the son of Cruella De Vil from “101 Dalmatians.” In the movie Descendants however he is a dog lover. The youngest of the main leads, Cameron was incredibly talented and his dance moves at the end of the movie stole the show. :respect:

My two nieces are staying at one of my wife’s sisters as we prepare to leave on our cross-country trip so haven’t been able to talk to them yet. I know Carlos was one of their favorite characters.

For our last leg of the trip, we will most likely return to Indy via I-65 which runs through Tennessee. If so, we definitely will stop in Franklin. Why Franklin? Believe it or not, it’s where Miley, Hayley, and Taylor live. Yes. It’s a pretty nice place. Has a lot of history. And is very upscale. I’ve been there before.

Once with my “ex” when we visited the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky. We drove down to see Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry. (Me? The “metalhead”?) and then someone suggested we visit Franklin. Another time I was by myself on the “old” Harley traveling to a motorcycle rally in Florida. Stopped and walked around downtown and saw the Civil War monument. Stayed in a nearby motel. And finally, three years ago, my current wife and I stopped to eat there coming back from Florida. Went to dinner and walked around downtown Franklin like an idiot wearing my Colts hat and “Andrew Luck” #12 jersey. Sorry, wasn’t thinking. :( Nobody said anything. You were all very polite. :respect:

Especially we wanted to see where the video for Paramore’s “Ain’t it Fun” was shot. And the road where the band posed years ago before the release of “Brand New Eyes.” The road I think I can find. It’s a popular place for fans to have their picture taken. The bridge where they smashed clocks is also a popular fansite but I don’t know where it is, yet.

If you aren’t from the US, Interstate 65 runs from Chicago all the way down to Mobile, Alabama. Zionsville, where I live, is right off Exit 130 in Indiana.

Another long “WebEx” meeting this afternoon. Shit. Some “professional” advice… if you have to host a meeting or make a presentation, keep it under 15 minutes. 30 at the most. I always keep my “interactions” short and to the point. If it’s just a quick “check in,” FaceTime is great. My students all have iPhones anyway so they love it. And you can host a group as well. Also, always dress appropriately. You don’t have to wear a tie but know your audience. And yes, wear pants. By now you have probably have seen that “news guy” who was caught on national TV broadcasting from his home…
