hi
What the Difference between shemale and lady boy ?
Kisses
Ladyboy is usually used as the English term for transsexual women in Thailand. I've also seen it used to refer to female transsexuals of most Asian countries.

You are right Ila. In the Philippines the term ladyboy is quite common. An example would be in "Craigs List Manila", Casual encounters, t4m and many of the posters call themselves Ladyboys.

Ladyboy is a broad normal term used here in Asia for a transgender woman or feminine gay man - it is not really considered derogatory and is in general a de facto term here.
Shemale is less used and implies a trans woman who has both female and male "attributes" - implanted breasts and penis. Though not considered particularly derogatory here in Asia it does have an air of pornography about it, so I generally don't use the term.

Newbie here. Glad I found this site & this thread :)
I had been wondering exactly the same thing. So there seems to be a geographical thing - ladyboys tend to be Asian. makes sense having looked at one or two ladyboy/shemale sites

Yes, that's fairly spot on - however, I would think that the term ladyboy is also used outside Asia - to a lesser degree, though. Bear in mind also that the population percentage of trans*women appears to be higher in Asia than anywhere else. At least it's apparent that the trans*culture is more visual in Asia. But that's another issue...

Great question.
Shemales are normally men half feminized who work in prostitution or porn films, trannys are men in drag and ladyboys are called Katoeys in Thailand and are respected as transsexuals in their country.
Shemales and trannies have nothing in common with transsexuals

It looks like you have you answer anyway but, i would agree that it is more location based rather than being anything different in meaning.
The more you know. I always thought a shemale was first stage -------> then evolve to ladyboy like pokemon. .....not really but interesting topic.

I've used both terms in the past - I can't think of a better reason to stick to using "ladyboys" in the future

It seems to me that outside the world of porn, "shemale" is being replaced by "transgendered." As others have posted, I also have the impression that "lady boy" is an Asian term.

In Japan, they are called Newhalf and one of the newest is Miran. I'd love to spend a night with her. Also in Thailand, they are also called Kathoey or katoey is a Thai term that refers to either a transgender woman or an effeminate gay male (femboy) in Thailand.
